𝐎𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | Minchin & Kelly (DLA Piper Africa, Botswana) is honoured to be in Cape Town, South Africa this week for 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐛𝐚 2026, one of the continent’s most important platforms for dialogue, investment, and collaboration in the mining sector.
On 9 February, 𝐃𝐋𝐀 𝐏𝐢𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 was proud to serve as a sponsor of the 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 2026 – 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.
During the reception, our Managing Partner, 𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐞, delivered remarks on DLA Piper’s extensive and in depth expertise in the legal and regulatory aspects of mining projects across Africa. As a firm, we remain committed to guiding clients through complex, cross border mining matters with a strong foundation of technical excellence and a deep understanding of the African regulatory landscape.
A key theme emphasised in Mr. Dambe’s address was the imperative that the importance of mining not only being for profit, but must also be for the benefit of the peoples and communities of Africa.
We were also pleased to hear from other distinguished speakers, including 𝐇𝐨𝐧. 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚 𝐃𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞, South Africa’s Minister of Tourism.
We extend our gratitude to 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 for hosting an engaging and impactful event. DLA Piper Africa, looks forward to continued collaboration at the Mining Indaba and to contributing to a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future for African mining.

This past Friday we had the pleasure of hosting an insurance seminar for our esteemed clients, practising as insurers. At the seminar we discussed every day practical issues that are encountered in the insurance industry such as insurance litigation, the concept of subrogation and that of time bar. The goal, in discussing these practical issues, was to facilitate the handover of claims and streamline the process of communication between us, Minchin & Kelly (Botswana), and our clients, so as to improve our attorney-client relationship. We have no doubt that this will result in the advancement of our ability to represent our clients diligently in the insurance landscape.
